Online Gradebooks

Using a web-based gradebook is a relatively new concept in classroom organization.  Many web-based gradebook providers feature functions which can consolidate information systems, grading, attendance, and scheduling onto an intuitive platform.

More importantly it is a tool that keeps students as well as parents informed of their progress.  It can be an accurate and efficient  way of keeping communication open.  At our school, this is our second year using SnapGrades http://snapgrades.com/web/features.php  It has been an expectation for all of our teachers to use this tool, however, we are @ 95% usage.
Some parents have expressed their indignation for the (or their interpretation) of the inconsistency.
Should schools use online or web-based grade books? If so, should all teachers be expected to use it?
